Food Waste Friday

*Sigh* It's apparently getting to be that time of year where my bread products suck in all the condensation in the air and turn moldy. I wasted a quarter loaf of whole wheat bread this week, in addition to a half of a container of ricotta cheese and a half of a bagel. I was determined to use the ricotta before it went bad, but when I opened it to use it, I realized I was too late. A loaf of whole wheat bread typically lasts about five days in our house. This one lasted about three before it started to get fuzzy. Bummer. I'll try to keep a better eye on our bread products now that I know they are getting moldy quicker.

  1. This time of year I put our bread in the fridge, and it lasts longer that way.
    Ricotta - scoop into ice cube tray and freeze you can use it in many things once its been frozen. Bagel if its not moldy just stale, pulverize it in a food processor for home made bread crumbs.

  2. We don't like to put our bread in the fridge because it gets hard, but we make ours with coconut oil (natural antifungal and antibacterial qualities) which keeps it mold free. I think we eat ours faster than you guys, though; I don't think we've ever had ours around for five days.
