This week I wasted about a 1/2 cup of hummus (notice I didn't say "we"...my hubby hates hummus!). I had made a ton with some leftover chickpeas and I ate most of it, but I forgot about it for a couple of days. When I went to make a sandwich with it on Tuesday, it had an unpleasant stench. I made some more hummus yesterday, but it was a much smaller quantity. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to eat it before IT goes bad. :)
I'll be posting later today about my super frugal (and easy) falafel dinner that I made at the beginning of the week. Stay tuned!

I look forward to your falafel post, I checked out the recipe and I love it. Have you ever tried to freeze hummus? If you have a larger batch than you think you can eat try freezing half and then using reblending it when its thawed. Another thought I use hummus (when I have it) for dipping, spreading and salads. I love hummus, so its never around long enough to go bad. The more we have the more I use. I even stir it into sauces to thicken the sauce and add some protien ;)
ReplyDeleteI stir it into sauces too (or make sauce out of it), but I've never done it with homemade. My hummus came out more like bean spread, so I wasn't sure how it was going to work in or as a sauce. I had been using it on bread with lots of veggies, but forgot about it for a couple days. This time when I made it, I added a little yogurt instead of tahini. It was great!!!! I'm sure that batch won't last long. :) Thanks so much for your comments!
ReplyDeleteGood job on only wasting the hummus. Wish I could say I did as well.
ReplyDeleteA bit of hummus waste is very respectable. Good job!
