Menu plan Monday

I am back!  I was off for the holidays...it was just to crazy to keep up with a blog.  My first post for 2011 is pretty appropriate for the new year.  I don't do New Year's Resolutions, but I will be detoxing these first few weeks.  "Detox" in the food world is a pretty recent buzzword.  There are all sorts of books on detoxing your body with diet, how to do it, the steps to follow, the foods to eat, etc.  I sort of feel like detoxing is the trend these days.  I don't know if it's bad or good, but the ultimate result (from what I've seen) is that the way people are detoxing is to eat a healthy diet.  That is a win-win situation, my friends.

I was in South Carolina for the New Year and my friend works at a raw food restaurant called The Sprout.
You can find out more about their venue through their website located here: http://thehealthysprout.com/home/.  This place is so awesome.  The owners are genuine, friendly and really care about people's well-being.  They have loads of juice and smoothie options, grab and go items in their coolers, among other things.  My friend made me an almond milk latte.  Oh my goodness...amazing!  If you end up in the Charleston area, I recommend you check it out.

Anyway, my point is that they were selling this 14 or 21 day detox program.  After asking my friend about the program, I felt it would be beneficial for me to try it out on my own, in my own way.  I didn't purchase their program, but broke my program down into three phases (which are similar to the program The Sprout promotes, from the way I understand it).  Week #1 will be a week full of vegan eats.  Week #2 will be all raw food and the last phase will be a few days of just juices.  Why am I doing this?  My body has felt so out of whack since the start of the holidays.  I am feeling lethargic and just plain blech.  I am hoping the detox will help cleanse my body of the occasional poor choices I made with my diet, give me more energy, and put my body back in sync.

All that said, here is my menu plan for the week:

Monday - Slow cooker curried garbanzo beans
Tuesday - Leftovers
Wednesday - Lentil sloppy joes (mine will be over a pile of veggies)
Thursday - Leftovers
Friday - Pizza on whole wheat crust with homemade sauce (mine will be cheese-less and loaded with veggies)
Saturday - Sweet corn and red pepper bisque.  This is inspired by my friend who we stayed with this weekend.  I am going to wing it. :)
Sunday - Leftovers

Breakfasts will be smoothies for myself and J; cereal, eggs and/or waffles for hubby.
Lunches will be leftovers, whole wheat tortillas with almond butter and banana, salads, PB&J on whole wheat bread.

  3. THM - I didn't get around to making it! Now I have to wait until this raw week is over. Or, I could try to make it raw...hmmmmmm. :)

Faith - So far, so good. Vegan week was a breeze! Raw food takes a little more planning and expense since some of the things aren't items I typically have in my house (i.e. nori sheets). I will need to think ahead for some meals as a result of occasionally needing to soak some nuts or use my dehydrator. It will be an adventure!
